Hi Friends,
I am so excited to be able to sit down and take a few moments to share with you today! As we are seeing things unfold around us, how are you processing?
What are your thoughts?
Have there been any major life changes or disruptions for you?
I am sure all of us have ridden the roller coaster of uncertainty over the past couple of years. We may not all be experiencing the same exact set of circumstances as our neighbor, but we all have something we are dealing with in this time and season.
We have all taken on different ways of coping and dealing with the ever present pressures of life. In the midst of doing so, I want to give you some encouragement and hope during this process.
I have been paying attention to something for a while now, and the more I have observed, the more concerned I have become. The reason being is because I have a heart to see entrepreneurs succeed. I have noticed how people trust and believe more in trends than strategy. I am seeing a one size fits all approach to business marketing, maintenance, and development – especially in the social media world! Unfortunately, one size does not always fit all. People are consistently following trends, hoping and believing that they will lead them to a desired outcome. But the truth of the matter is this, TRENDS DIE DOWN, but a solid STRATEGY has the potential to SECURE YOUR FUTURE AND YOUR LEGACY!
Let’s talk about it!
First let’s examine a Trend versus a Strategy.
A trend tells us the “general direction of which something is developing or changing” (Oxford Languages – Google). Once a trend is established, it is often advised that we follow it because eventually something will become of it, because it has for others in the past.
But before you invest in this one size, fits all type of model, I would suggest you count up the cost of the Time, Energy, & Effort you will put into something that is not your original vision or purpose. The trend you follow may or may not be successful and you may say, well that’s with anything. However, let’s examine this for a bit.
If it is a success, how will you maintain it? How will you manage it, especially if it is the opposite of your original vision and purpose or intent in business or your life? How will you allow it to work for you, and position you for a future place of success and prosperity? How will you use the trend to work for you longterm or will you just continue to hop onto every new trend that surfaces over time?
Let me go down a rabbit hole here for a moment. I have tons of meaningful conversations with my children and one thing that I absolutely believe in is establishing accountability. I am not one of those parents who says, “do as I say and not as I do”! I believe in teaching from my past experiences and mistakes and positioning my children so they don’t have to repeat those mistakes, A.K.A Trends!
Although they will have their own process to go through in Life, they will be better equipped to handle some of the same tests that I didn’t do so well in due to the lack of knowledge in those areas.
As we understand that life is a cycle, and there is nothing new up under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9), and in knowing this, our children will have the opportunity to face similar dilemmas we once have, but will we teach them that the “trend” isn’t the answer? Can you think of a time in your life where you followed a trend and things didn’t go as planned or you were harmed in the process in some way?
Of course we would want them to follow the ones we did succeed at or the trends that we found successful, however, the issue with that is what worked for us may not work for them.
This is why we further understand that it is Strategy that best suits our lives.
Strategy is customizable. It is not only well suited for the outcome it’s intended to achieve, but for the people or person involved.
A strategy is “a PLAN of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim” (Oxford Languages – Google).
Strategy also involves utilizing strategic planning & preparation processes that work to our advantage in numerous ways, but today I’ll expound on just three.
#1 – Strategy Defines Purpose. Purpose reveals the true reason behind why you are doing what you’re doing.
If you are starting a business, why? If you are changing gears in how you do business, why? What are the reasons for your motivations? Strategy has a way of challenging you to filter out everything that does not matter in order to become clear about what does. When a strategy is in place it requires you to have clear focus without distractions to ensure you remain faithful in what you are wanting to achieve.
#2 – Strategy Directs Purpose. It’s amazing how we are taught to duplicate all throughout school. Everyone follows the same pattern which leaves no room for innovation, creativity, or uniqueness. Duplication and cookie cutter patterns for life and business are like trends that pressure people to think that if they do things differently than the patterns that have been set, they may very well fail. This is so not true!
Strategy provides a unique and customized structure with the sole intent of being able to accomplish the purpose, vision, or goal you are working towards. It filters out the proclivity of being preoccupied with the way someone else is doing something, but instead provides you a blueprint and a roadmap with specific instructions on how to accomplish what you are trying to achieve.
#3 – Strategy Facilitates Purpose. Strategy makes it easier to navigate through the process of achieving your vision and purpose. It takes away the guess work, the distractions, the opinions, the vulnerability of seeking a trend or a path that is not suitable for you and your vision.
There is a specific audience of people that your purpose is designed to reach, and there is a STRATEGY fit to make your journey easier.
What will be your Strategy?
